All items in our online shop ship free within the US only. I currently offer U.S. shipping only and it is from rural Maine. Delivery can vary from 2–14 days depending on your distance from Maine. Expedited shipping is not available.
Please note: I am now selling all of my paper bead making tools and other items from this web site using Paypal payments.
I have removed all of my paper bead making tools from Amazon. My Kindle crochet pattern books and paper template paperback books continue to be available on Amazon, as they are printed and fulfilled directly by Amazon. A limited number of paper bead making tools remain available on Etsy but I am not linking to those tools from this site.
Bordered Hexies Quilt Progress
An English Paper Piecing Project
This is a quilt I started on April 18 2022. I wanted an EPP quilt that had hexagons in it but the hexagons had to make a square block. I wanted to make it using the quilt as you go technique and double sided. I knew it would be an insane project but I was determined to make it happen.
The purpose of this page is to keep me going on this large project, make me accountable. I also wanted to share this with all of you. Over time, I do plan on releasing the pattern for a traditional quilt top done with English paper piecing. Not the double side verison that I am making.
In 2025, I plan to offer 3D printed fabric cutting templates and digital machine cutting files for the paper pieces. Yes, you can purchase the 1inch hexagons and half hexagons but there are pieces that are not readily available for purchase for this quilt. The edge pieces and the corner pieces. Also the corner blocks have what I call house shapes and I will provide downloadable machine cutting files for those as well.
Basically, I will offer the patterns and tools at the block level. That way, you can do what you want to with them. There are 3 blocks in this quilt. Corner, border and main blocks.
This is the progress I have made so far with my hand stitched English Paper Piecing Quilt. Not all of the squares have been stitched together and some of the blocks have been pieced. Each square block is about 8-3/4in x 8-3/4in in size. This is a double sided quilt, the block is the same on the back as on the front, just different fabrics. I have to make a total of 286 blocks. 143 for each the front and back of the quilt. There is over 10,000 patches to hand stitch together. I intend to add each block I have pieced together to this page. If a block is the same as a previous block, I will just reuse the actual image of the first of that block to indicate that I completed another block of that color way.
- Quilt Statistics
- 4 Corner Square Blocks, 15 Patches Each. 60 Total Patches
- 40 Border Blocks, 28 Patches Each, 1,120 Total Patches
- 99 Main Square Blocks, 40 Patches Each, 3,960 Total Patches
- 60+1,120+3960 = 5,140 Total Patches on One Side. 10,280 Patches total for the whole double sided quilt. I think I am insane!
- If I am able to stitch together 10 patches a day, I expect to be able to finish in about 3 years from now, which today is, January 27, 2025.
I broke my ring finger on my right hand on May 25, 2024 and so I lost about 6 months worth of stitching. My goal, as of building this page, is to stitch at least 10 patches per day.
I have actually made more blocks than the front and back sides of the quilt pages show. I haven't taken pictures of them yet but as soon as I do, I will add them to the front and back quilt pages.
About the Pattern
In the near future, hopefully before June 2025, I will make the pattern for the Blocks used in this quilt available as a free pattern. I will offer, for sale, the paper pieces, svg cutting files for the paper pieces and 3D printed plastic cutting templates for the fabric pieces. You can purchase the half hexies and 1" hexies anywhere you can find English Paper Piecing papers but there are other pieces that may not be available anywhere else.
Random Quick Tip!
Don't Throw Away Waste Beads!Don't throw away your waste beads, you know, the beads at each end of your fishing line when you are glazing your beads. The beads that catch the extra glaze. Or beads that don't end up great. Put them into a jar and save them for other craft projects. You can make wall hangings by gluing them onto a backer board, like in a mosaic fashion and make some great looking wall art!
