This scrunchie uses the Checker Stitch which is also used in a few other patterns on the site. It is 2 sided where both layers are worked back to back on the hair elastic.

    Materials Needed
  • Worsted Weight Acrylic Yarn in 2 contrasting Colors
  • 1 Large Hair Elastic
  • Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
  • Yarn Needle for Weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 3-4mm
Gauge: 4sc = 1"
Finished Size: 3½" x 1¾"
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Special Stitch: Checker Stitch (ckr)
The basic instructions are:
Sc in stitch indicated, while keeping loop on hook, insert hook in same st, yo, and ch3. Yo, pull through both lps on hook, then while keeping the first lp on hook. Pull up a lp in each of the 3 chs, then yo and pull yarn through all 4 lps on hook. Ch1.

Instructions
RND 1: Join first color to elastic. Ch1. *Sc in elastic, ch3. Rep from * 12 times more. Join wslst to first sc. You should have 13 ch3 lps with spaces between the stitches.

RND 2: Ch1. Ckr in same st as joining. Ckr in next ch3 sp. *Ckr in next sc. Ckr in next ch3 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off first color.

2nd Side: Join 2nd color to any space between stitches on elastic working on the back side of the first side. Work each stitch between the stitches all the way around. That way the back sides are facing each other. Repeat RNDs 1 and 2 of first side.
