Slotted Paper Bead Rollers
Split Pin Paper Bead Rollers
Wooden Dowels and Skewers
A lot of people start off using toothpicks to make paper beads. I have tried to use toothpicks but found it difficult to get the rolling started. I used to use toothpicks to dry my paper beads that have the 1/16" hole in them.
There are lots of tutorials online and at YouTube that will show you how to roll paper beads with toothpicks. The ladies in Uganda and other foreign developing nations use toothpicks to roll their beads. Their beads are unbelievable! They use recycled magazines to make their beads. I watched a video on how they do it and I am in awe with how they can make such beautiful beads with the toothpicks.
There is only one benefit to using toothpicks. They are cheap and you can use them to hold the beads as you glaze them. Just remember, if you glaze your beads one at a time with a brush on glaze, to coat your toothpick with wax to prevent the beads from sticking to them as they dry. I never roll my beads with toothpicks but it is possible.
