I broke my left ankle in 2 places on May 1, 2025
A bimalleolar fracture is an ankle fracture that involves both the tibia and fibula, the lower leg bones that end on either side of the ankle. They form the small bumps on the inner side and the outer side of your ankle. Most bimalleolar and trimalleolar ankle fractures are serious injuries.
The doctor expects it to take a year before I can walk normally again. I have osteoarthritis in both hips so it may be slower for me since I am over 50.
Today I got a ramp added to my front deck so I can get out to my mail box and get to appointments easier. We are borrowing this ramp from the Mason's. A charitable organization that helps people when in need. I am so grateful to have such generous people to help us. I live is a tiny town, population, around 600. Yes six hundred! We are a close knit community always willing to help each other out in times of need.
On a sad note, my Step Mother unexpectedly passed away earlier this year and her graveside service is today so it is a bittersweet day. My sister and I will be going to the service while the ramp is being installed.
Yesterday I had my staples removed! It hurt a little which I expected. They wrapped my ankle back up in a simple dressing and the doctor told me I could clean the ankle tonight and put a sock on it. I actually did it this morning when I got dressed for the day. The incision still hurts so I had to be really careful. All went well. Nothing more major to mention. It was a good day.
Today I had an appointment today, expecting to get my staples removed but the Doctor wanted to wait, one more week, to remove them. I did get the splint removed and was given a new walking boot to prepare me for when I can start putting weight on my ankle. He expects another 6 to 8 weeks from now before I can start putting weight on it. I am in for a long recovery, to normal. Perhaps a year, including physical therapy, that could start in early July.
My office and most of my product inventory is now in my new upstairs office so I am able to fill orders easily without having to have my husband go downstairs and get what is neede, I also have a 3D printer in my new office so I can keep designing new products. The new office may become permanent even after physical therapy is complete in about a year from now. We will decide that when we get there.
As of today, I am back on extra strength Acetaminophen pain killers every six hours. No need for the more powerful stuff, I was on, since May 4 2025. The pain is bearable as long I continue to elevate and ice.
My husband brought up, from my shipping station, most of the inventory I have for filling orders. Right now he has to help me get to the products needed to fill the orders since we don't have enough shelving to hold everything. We ordered new shelving to accomodate all of my containers I use to store the bead rollers and other bead making tools I sell.
I went to my first postop visit and saw the Same PA I saw last year in May and June for my broken Right Hand ring finger. He recognized me after I told him what I broke last year and he said, yeah, are you the one that was using some sort of equipment? I said yes, I was using the Arbor Press I have. Then I said, I wonder what I will break next May!. He repsonded with "Nothing I Hope!". Me: Let's hope! lol. He looked at the ankle and the incision and said everything looked good. No signs of blood clots or infection.
Today was sugery day for my broken ankle. Everything went well and I am on the mend. After my sugery they gave me a blueberry muffin and coffee to make sure I could eat and keep it down. They they sent me home. The nurses and doctors were great! I felt very well taken care of.
My step son Kevin and his wife Heidi will be here on Sunday May 11 to help me and my husband. We are moving my office to a spare bedroom, right off of my living room so I can continue doing daily updates and perhaps fill orders.
My computer is now set up in a spare bedroom so now I am able to daily updates. Since I do need help getting to my office and order processing area, in the basement, I am not able to process orders for at least a week or two. After June 20, I may only be able to get to my basement work area, 2 days a week. I am not sure how long it will be where I will need a lot of help to do what I do. I do know my ankle needs surgery, which is on Friday May 9, 2025. After that, I am not sure what will happen.
