Cluster Hearts Bookmark

This Mile-A-Minute style bookmark is fairly fast and easy to make and can be completed in an evening. The way the clusters are made looks like they make up a column of hearts down the center of it. Great for Valentine's Day!

Materials Needed
Small amount size 10 crochet cotton in pink. Southmaid was used in the example.
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends

Thread Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1"
Finished Size: 6¾"x2¼"
Skill Level: Beginner

Treble Crochet Cluster (trcl): *Yo, twice. Insert hook in sp indicated. Yo, pull up a lp. Yo, pull through 2 lps on hook twice. Rep from * 2 times more. Yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions
ROW 1: Ch16. Tr in 5th ch from hook. Tr in next ch. Ch3. Sk next 3 chs. TrCl, ch3, trcl in next ch. Ch3. Sk next 3 chs. Tr in each of the next 3 chs. Ch4, turn.

ROW 2-15: Tr in each of the next 2 tr. Ch3. Sk next ch3 sp. Trcl, ch3, trcl in next ch3 sp. Ch3. Sk next ch3 sp. Tr in each of the next 2 tr and in top of ch4. Ch4, turn.

Perimeter: Ch4, join w/slst to 4th ch from hook. Working counter clockwise around bookmark, treat each row as a ch3 sp.
Left Side: 3sc in next ch3 sp. (Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook. 3sc in next ch3 sp. 14 times)
Corner: Ch4, slst in 4th ch from hook.
Bottom: Sc in each base of the next 3 tr. 3sc in next ch3 sp. Ch4, slst in 4th ch from hook. 3sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in each base of the next 3 tr.
Corner: Ch4, slst in 4th ch from hook.
Right Side: 3sc in next ch3 sp up the other side of bookmark. (Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook. 3sc in next ch3 sp. 14 times)
Corner: Ch4. Slst in 4th ch from hook.
Top: Sc in each of the next 3 tr. 3sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook. sc in next ch3 sp. Ch4. Slst in 4th ch from hook. Sc in same ch3 sp. Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook. 3Sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in each of the next 2 tr. Slst in next tr. Fasten off, weave ends into back of work.

Random Quick Tip!

No Crochet Beaded Garland
Use colorful Christmas yarn and assorted beads to make a garland. No need to crochet for this one. You will need a needle with a large enough eye so that you can get the yarn through it and also small enough to go through the beads you want to use. Then to work the beads on so that they will stay on but not be all bunched together, cut your yarn so you have about 30 feet. The tie a bead on one end and put the needle on the other. Then string on another bead, but pass the needle through it twice the same way, then knot the yarn close to the bead so it will stay where you want it. then repeat this with as many beads as you can fit on your yarn. Make each bead about 3/4" to 1" apart. You can use a wide variety of beads this way and get a very beautiful effect depending on what you use for yarn. A metallic yarn with plain beads would be very pretty.
