Maltese Pearled Bracelet

This bracelet is made with hairpin lace also known as Maltese crochet and is a good beginner project for those just starting in hair pin lace. Working with such a small size takes a little patience but when it is all done it is well worth the effort.

Materials Needed:
Small amount Pearl Knit-Cro-Sheen
76 size 4mm pearl beads NOTE: you may not use all the beads.
Size 7 Steel crochet hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10sc=1" 0r 10lps = 1".
Finished Size: 8"x1"
Skill Level: Intermediate in crochet but beginner in hairpin lace.

Instructions
Set the loom to 1" wide or make your own using a coat hanger cut to 14" long then bend each end up 6". You should have a square bottom U shape.

Loop thread around fork and tie knot in center tightly. Tie knot in free end of yarn to indiate beginning of strip.

STEP 1: Hold fork in left hand. Bring yarn from ball around to back of crochet fork, insert hok between the two threads of loop now on crochet fork at left of center knot.

STEP 2: Hook yarn and bring through loop, reach again for yarn and bring through stitch on hook.

STEP 3: To position crochet hook for next step, leae hook in stitch, and flip handle of hook through to back of fork. Then turn fork ½ turn to left, making new loop ofyarn over loop.

STEP 4: Insert hook under first complete loop at left of knot under both strands of yarn. Pick up yarn with hook and bring through loop. Reach again for yarn and bring through both stitches on hook. (Makes a single crochet).

Repeat Steps 3 & 4 for 70 loops. Count loops carefully, being sure same number is on each leg of loom. To finish off, cut yarn leaving 6 inches, draw through last stitch. Remove bottom bar from loom and slide entire strip off.

Now you will be working around the perimeter. String all of the beads onto the thread.

Join thread in the top left corner loop. The very first one. Sc in this same lp. *Draw up a bead and ch1. Sc in each of the next 2 lps. Rep from * across to the other end. You may end up with a bead on the last loop.

4Sc over the 2 strands of the last lp. Ch3. Now this part is tricky. You need to hold on to the first lp of the other side and work 4sc over the two strands of this loop. Becareful not to drop the stitches. Then Sc in the same loop to lock the sc stitches in. Then *draw up a bead and ch 1. Sc in each of the next 2 lps. Rep from * across. 4sc over 2strands of last loop. Ch4, work 8dc in 4th ch from hook, take hook out and insert into first dc, then reinsert hook in dropped loop and draw through the first dc, ch3, slst in same ch as last dc. Ch1. Work 4sc over 2strands of loop on next side. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work. You are now done with your bracelet.

The 8dc part is a button that you insert into the ch3 sp at the other end to close the bracelet.
