Five Ornaments to Crochet

All of these patterns, with the exception of the angel, are crocheted with baby yarn. The angel is crocheted with size 10 Knit-Cro-Sheen. You will need to save the picture of the patterns on this page as well because it is not in the zipped file.

Basket Ornament

Materials Needed
Small amount white baby yarn.
Size D aluminum crochet hook
Fabric Stiffener
A cap from a plastic milk jug
Waxed paper or plastic wrap
18" green or red ¼" wide satin ribbon

Instructions
RND1: Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 4, *dc in ring, ch 1. Repeat from * 9 times total. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 2: Sl st into first ch 1 sp. Ch 4, dc in same sp, *dc, ch 1, dc in next ch 1 sp. (vst made). Repeat from * around. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 3-5: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc in same sp. Vst in each vst around. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 6: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc in same st. *vst bet vsts. Vst in next vst. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 7: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc in same st. Vst in vst around. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

Handle
Ch 24, sk 9 vsts. Take care not to twist ch. With beg side toward you, working in 10 th vst, sl st in right dc, ch 1, sl st in left dc, then sc in each of the 24 sch back to the beg side. Sl st into next dc of first vst. Fasten off and weave ends into work.

To Stiffen.
Dip basket into fabric stiffener. Shake out excess stiffener. Place jug cap into bottom of basket to form shape. Crumple up waxed paper or wrap and put into basket to shape the sides and the handle. Look at picture for the shape of the basket. Let dry overnight. When completely dry, remove the waxed paper or plastic wrap and the jug cap. Attach hanger to top of handle. Make 2 bows out of the ribbon and glue into place on either side of the basket. Check picture for proper placement.


Sparkle Snowflake

Materials Needed
Small amount white baby yarn
Size D aluminum crochet hook.
Irredescent glitter
fabric stiffener
flat piece Styrofoam board about 5"x5".
Waxed paper
Pins & tape

Instructions
RND 1: Ch 8, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. *sc in ring, ch 6. Repeat from * 5 times more. Sl st to first sc.

RND 2: Sl st in 2 chs of first ch 6. Sc in lp. * ch 12, sl st in 6th ch from hk, ch 10, sl st in 10th ch from hk, ch 6, sl st in 6th ch from hk. Ch 6, sc in top of next lp. Repeat from * around. But sl st in first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work.

To Stiffen
Dip snowflake into fabric stiffener. Stretch and pin onto Styrofoam that is covered with waxed paper. Allow to dry overnight but while it is still wet, sprinkle glitter all over it. After it is dry, remove from block and attach a hanger to one point.


Net Stitch Angel

Materials Needed
Small amount Knit-Cro-Sheen.
Size 7 steel crochet hook
1 8" high Styrofoam cone
Fabric Stiffener
Plastic Wrap
A few Pins
Gold metallic thread

Instructions
RND 1: Ch 3, work 11 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

RND 2: Ch 3, dc in dc around. Join with a sl st to top of ch 3.

RND 3: * dc in dc, dec over the next 2 dcs. Repeat from * until you have 9sts left.

RND 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc around. Sl st to ch 1.

RND 5: Ch 4, dc in same st as sl st. Work the fol into ech sc around, (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc). Sl st to top of ch 3.

RND 6: Sl st into ch 1 sp. *Ch 4, sc bet the next dcs, ch 4, sc in next ch 1 sp. repeat from * until you come to the first ch 1 sp. Sl st in first sc made.

RND 7-8: Sl st to the 2nd ch of ch 4 lp. Sc in same lp. * ch 4, sc in next ch 4 lp. Repeat from * until you come to the beg of the round. Ch 4, sl st in first sc.

RND 9: Sl st into 2 ch of ch 4 lp. Work 2 sc in same ch 4 lp. (work 4 sc in next ch 4 lp. Work 2 sc in next ch 4 lp.) Sk the next 6 ch 4 lps. Work 2 sc in next ch 4 lp. Repeat bet () 1 more time. sk next 6 ch 4 lps. Sl st in next sc.

RND 10: *Ch 3, sc in next sc. Repeat from * until you come to the beg of rnd. sl st into first sc.

RND 11-24: Sl st into first ch of ch 3 lp. Sc in same lp, * ch 3, sc in next ch 3 lp. Repeat from * until you come back to the beg of rnd. Sl st to first sc.

RND 25: Sl st to center of ch 3 lp. *Work 6 dc in the next ch 3 lp. Sc in next ch 3 lp. Repeat from * until you reach the last 6 dc group. Sl st in first sc made. Fasten off and weave ends into work.

Finishing the Wings
RND 1: Tie thread to the 8th row in one of the lps where there are 2 scs right side facing you. Ch 3, sc in next ch 4 lp. *Ch 4, sc in the next ch 4 lp. Repeat from * 4 times more. Ch 3, sc in next lp which has 2 scs in it. Sl st to first sc made on wing.

RND 2: Sc in first ch 3 lp. *Work 8 ds in next ch 4 lp. Sc in next ch 4 lp. Repeat from * 2 times more. You will actually sc in ch 3 lp the 2nd time. sl st into ch 3 lp. Fasten off. Weave ends into work.

Repeat with other wing on other side.

To Stiffen
Stuff head with a small amount of polyester fiberfill. Dip angel up to her neck into fabric stiffener. cover Styrofoam with plasic wrap. Place angel's skirt over cone to shape skirt. Stiff bodice and wings with plastic wrap to help keep it's shape while drying. Make sure to completely saturate the whole angel except for head. Since the head is stuffed, you do not need to stiffen it. Allow the angel to dry overnight. When completely dry, attach gold thread to top of head to form a loop. This is the hanger.


Bell Ornament

Materials Needed
Small amount white sport weight yarn
Size D aluminum crochet hook
18" green or red ¼" satin ribbon
1 ¾" or 1" jungle bell
Fabric stiffener
Hot glue or Thick Tacky Glue

RND 1: Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 4, * dc in ring, ch 1. Repeat from *8 more times. (10 stitches total). Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 2: Sl st into first ch 1 sp. Ch 4, dc in sp. "V"st made. * dc, ch 2, dc in next ch 1 sp. Repeat from * around. Sl st to 34d ch of ch 4.

RND 3-6: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc in st. Work a vst in each vst around. Sl st in 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 7: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc in same st. *1 dc bet vsts. vst in vst. Repeat from * around to last vst. Dc bet last two vsts. Sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.

RND 8: Sl st into first vst. Ch 4, dc insame st. *1 dc bet vst & dc. 1 dc bet dc and next vst. Vst in vst. Repeat from * until last vst is made. 1 dc bet last vst & dc. Dc bet dc & first vst of rnd. Slst to 3rd ch of ch 4. Fasten off. Weave strings into work. But leave the top string intact and do not weave it in.

To Stiffen:
Dip bell into fabric stiffener. Carefully shake excess stiffener out and put waxed paper into bell. Shape it into a bell shape. Allow to dry overnight. After it is dry, remove waxed paper. String the top string into the (which should be on the inside of the bell) onto the jingle bell and pull string through top of bell. Make a loop by twisting the string around a loop pulled up on top of bell. Secure with glue. Attach a gold hanging loop to the loop on top of bell. Weave ribbon around bell at row 6, in spaces bet vsts. Tie a bow. Trim ribbon to desired length.


Star Ornament

Materials Needed Small Amount white baby yarn
Size D aluminum crochet hook.
A piece of flat Styrofoam about 5"x5"
Fabric Stiffener
Waxed Paper or plastic Wrap
Pins and Tape
Irredescent glitter.

RND 1: Ch 8, sl st to first ch to form ring. *Sc in ring. Ch 8, repeat from * 4 times total. Sc in ring. Ch 4, trbl in first sc.

RND 2: Ch 1, sc in lp last made in RND 1. *Ch 5, sc in next lp. Repeat from * 3 times more. Ch 6, sl st in first sc.

RND 3: *Ch 12, sl st in 5th ch from hook. Ch 7, sc in next sc. Repeat from * 4 times more but sl st in first ch of first ch 12. Fasten off. Weave ends into work.

To Stiffen
Dip star into fabric stiffener. Stretch and pin onto the board which should be covered with wax paper or plastic wrap. Allow to dry overnight but while still wet, sprinkle the glitter all over it. When completely dry, attach hanger to one of the points.
