Shell Stitch Bell Ornament

Shell Stitch Bell Ornament Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This bell is fast and easy to make and can be made with any color thread you want for any occasion whether it is for Christmas, New year's or a wedding.

Materials Needed
Size 10 Crochet Cotton in color of choice. Southmaid in yellow was used in the example
Size 7 steel crochet hook
1 hard foam bell shaped form 2 ¼" h x 2"w at base
1 5/8" jingle bell of any color
1 ornament hanger
Plastic Wrap
Fabric Stiffener
Paper cup for fabric stiffener
Tapestry Needle
Different embellishments such as bows for decorating

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 2 ¼" h x 2"w at base
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch5. Dc in ring, ch2, 7 times. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5. (8 ch2 sps)

RND 2: Ch5, dc in same st as slst. Dc, ch2, dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 3 & 4: Ch5. Dc in next dc. *Dc in next dc. Ch2, dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

RND 5: Slst into the next ch2 sp. Ch3, dc, ch1, 2dc in same sp. 2dc, ch1, 2dc in each ch2 sp around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6 & 7: Slst in next dc and in next ch1 sp. Ch3, dc, ch1, 2dc in same sp. 2dc, ch1, 2dc in each ch1 sp around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 8: Slst in next dc and in next ch1 sp. Ch3, 2dc, ch1, 3dc in same sp. Ch1. *3dc, ch1, 3dc in next ch1 sp. Ch1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Slst into the next 2 dc. Slst in the next ch1 sp. Ch3, 2dc, ch1, 3dc in same sp. 2dc in next ch1 (not the space but the actual chain.) *3dc, ch1, 3dc in next ch1 sp. 2dc in next ch. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 10: Slst into the next 2 dc. Slst into the next ch1 sp. Ch3, 5dc in same sp. (Sk next 3 dc. Dc in next dc. Ch4, slst in 4th ch from hook. Dc in next dc.) *6dc in next ch1 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave finishing end into back of work.

Leave the starting end long for sewing in jingle bell after stiffening.

Finishing
Step 1. Tape or pin waxed paper to bell form.

Step 2. Pour fabric stiffener into paper cup. A 5oz kitchen cup would work.

Step 3. Dip crocheted bell into stiffener leaving the starting end out. Allow to saturate completely.

Step 4. Put soaked bell onto bell form and stretch and shape as desired. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 5. When bell is completely dry, take it off of the form, sew jingle bell to the inside. Glue on the embellishments and attach hanger to top.
