Spiral Hacky Sack

This crocheted hackysack is made in tapestry crochet by carrying three strands of thread through out the project and it is stuffed with a hand made ball made with polypellets inside it.

Materials Needed
Size 10 crochet cotton in black, gold and red.
Size 7 steel crochet hook
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
2 pieces white cotton fabric, 4" x 4" square.
at least 1/3 cup poly pellets but less than .5 cup.
Sewing thread and a needle
Pencil or pen
3" cardboard circle for template
3 or 4 straight pins

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 2" diameter
Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced

Instructions
Make the inside Ball first.
Step 1: Place the 2 squares of fabric together and draw a 3" circle on the top one. Using the straight pins, pin the squares together inside the circle.

Step 2: Using needle and thread, work a running stitch with stitches about 1/8th in long 1/3" inside the 3" circle. Leave an opening about 1" wide. Cut out circle on pencil line. Turn inside out. Stuff ball with poly pellets and stitch opening closed with a whip stitch. Set ball aside.

Crocheted Cover for ball. RND 1: With black, ch2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join, mark beginning of each round with a contrasting color of thread. (6sc)

RND 2: 2sc in each sc around. (12sc)

RND 3: *2sc in next st. Sc in next st. Rep from * 5 times more. (18sc)

RND 4: *2sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Rep from * 5 times more. (24sc)

RND 5: *2sc in next st. Sc in next sc. Join gold, sc in next st. *W/black sc in next sc. 2sc in next st. Sc in next sc. W/gold, sc in next st. Rep from * 4 times more. (30sc)

RND 6: W/black sc in next sc. W/gold, sc in same st as last sc. *W/black sc in each of the next 4 sc. W/gold, sc in same sc as last sc. Rep from * 4 times more. (36sc)

RND 7: *W/black, sc in each of the next 5 sc. W/gold, sc in same st as last sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (42sc)

RND 8: *W/black, sc in each of the next 6 sc. W/gold, sc in same st as last sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (48sc)

RND 9: *W/gold, sc in each of the next 6 sc. 2sc in next sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (54sc)

RND 10: Join red. *W/red, sc in each of the next 7 sc. W/black, 2sc in next sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (60sc)

RND 11: *W/red, sc in each of the next 8 sc. W/gold, 2sc in next sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (66sc)

RND 12: *W/red, sc in each of the next 9 sc. W/black, 2sc in next sc. Rep from * 5 times more. (72sc)

RND 13: *W/red, sc in each of the next 4 sc. W/gold, sc in next sc. W/red, sc in each of the next 4 sc. W/black, sc in each of the next 2sc. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 14: *W/red, sc in each of the next 3sc. W/gold, sc in each of the next 3 sc. W/red, sc in each of the next 3 sc. W/black, sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 15: *W/red, sc in each of the next 4 sc. W/gold, sc in next sc. W/red, sc in each of the next 4 sc. W/black, sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 16: *W/red, sc in each of the next 9 sc. W/black, sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 17 & 18: Repeat RND 16.

RND 19: Repeat RND 15.

RND 20: Repeat RND 14.

RND 21: Repeat RND 15.

Slip prepared ball inside work.
RND 22: *W/red, pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sc, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook. Dec made. W/black, sc in each of the next 9 sc. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 23: *W/red, sc in each of the next 8 sts. W/gold, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 24: *W/red, sc in each of the next 7 sts. W/gold, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 25: *W/gold, sc in each of the next 6 sts. Dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 26: *W/black, sc in each of the next 5 sts. W/gold, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 27: *W/black, sc in each of the next 4 sts. W/gold, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 28: *W/black, sc in each of the next 3 sts. W/gold, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

RND 29: *W/black, sc in each of the next 2 sts. Dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more.

Fasten off gold and red and tuck inside work.

RND 30: *W/black, sc in next st, dec 1. Rep from * 5 times more. Fasten off and weave black through last RND to gather up to close.
