Fashion Doll Easy Chair

Fashion Doll Easy Chair Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This crocheted chair is made with a plastic canvas frame and a crocheted cover. The cover is made in 2 pieces which are then sewn together while tied onto the frame and then the bottom edge of the crochet work is stitched to the frame to give an upholstered look. A separate cushion is then made for the seat.

Instructions

Step 1: Cut out pieces of plastic canvas according to stitching chart following the hole guides below. Here is a tip, you might want to label them with small labels as you cut each piece out since some are close to the same size. Follow the cutting guide in the PDF file for the actual cutting lines for the Chair Back and Chair Front since they are not plain rectangles. There are 3 pieces not on the chart below. They are the "Bottom" piece and the "Arm Outside" pieces.
  • Top Side, 2 pieces, 5x21 holes
  • Arm tops, 2 pieces, 5x26 holes
  • Bottom, 1 piece, 33x26 holes
  • Arm Outside, 2 pieces, 24x26 holes
  • Arm Inside, 2 pieces, 21x16 holes
  • Inside Back, 1 piece, 37x23 holes
  • Chair Seat, 1 piece, 21x23 holes
  • Back Top, 1 piece, 5x24 holes
  • Chair Back, 1 piece, 34x45 holes overall
  • Chair front, 1 piece, 33x24 holes overall

Stitch the pieces together in the following order lining up holes as you go.
  1. Stitch an arm top to each of the arm inside pieces. The arm tops are longer than the inside arms so line up one end of each arm top to the long end of each arm inside.
  2. Stitch the other side of each arm inside piece to each side of the seat. Make sure the longer end of the arm tops are at the same side, (to the back of the inside arm.)
  3. Stitch the inside back to the back of the seat and each inside arm piece to form the inside of the chair.
  4. Stitch the short end of the arm top to the short upper end of the chair front. Stitch the inside upper side edge of the chair front to the front edge of the inside arm. Stitch the seat front edge to the inside upper edge of the chair front. Stitch the other upper inside edge of the chair front to the front edge of the other inside arm piece. Stitch the upper narrow edge of the chair front to the narrow front end of the arm top. Use picture of finished frame for guidance.
  5. Stitch each of the narrow ends of the Back top to a narrow end of each of the 2 Top Sides.
  6. Stitch the piece just made to the inside upper back piece so it goes from arm top to arm top as in picture.
  7. Set inside of chair aside for now.
  8. Stitch outside arm pieces to sides of Chair back.
  9. Now you will stitch the front of the chair to the back of the chair. Starting at bottom front corner of right arm stitch up front corner, arm top to arm outside, narrow end of arm top to narrow space of back, up back side, across back top, down other back side, narrow end of other arm to narrow space on back, arm top to arm outside and then down the front corner.
  10. Stitch bottom to chair all the way around. Set Chair frame aside.

Crochet Part
It is very important you weave the ends in as you go where indicated. You will be leaving some ends long for stitching parts together later. ROW 1: Ch18. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch1, turn.

ROW 2-4: Sc in each sc across. Ch1, turn.

ROW 5: Sc in each of the first 3 sc. Ch1, turn.

You should end up with 13 sc up the rows. Sc in each of the 11 stitches across the top of the seat. Work a sc in each of the 13 rows down the left side of the seat. Ch1, turn. Now you are going to work on the stitches just made.

Back of crochet work.

Assembly Use a lacing stitch to stitch all pieces together. Use a whip stitch to stitch chair cover to chair frame.
Use a contrasting color of yarn to tie certain spots of the crochet pieces to the chair frame to keep them in place as follows. Pick up front piece of work and tie rows 26 of front to back of chair frame to keep them in place.
Pull chair front down to front of frame and tie the bottom corners of row 1 in place at bottom front of chair frame. You might want to tie a piece of yarn to the front top corners of arms to help keep them in place.

front of chair crochet piece.

Tie the upper right and left corners of inside chair to upper right and left corners of frame.
Tie top of from piece to back edge of top of chair frame so the gussett is covering the top of the chair. Tie the bottom corners of the gussett to the corner where the arms meet the upper sides.
Tie the back piece to the frame at each corner.

Chair almost all stitched together.

With same color as you used for chair cover, start lacing up the seams where they come together. Start with the inside seams where the arm tops meet the inside arms and the front inside seams of the arms. Then after that is done, lace the outside arm seams, the upper back seam and the other outside arm seam. After you are all done with the upper seams, stitch the bottom edge to the chair frame using a whip stitch. Remove all contrasting yarn you used to tie pieces in place.

NOTE: I didn't use contrasting yarn and I didn't tie all points I indicated in place but I really should have. It would have been a lot easier.

Congratulations! You are done with the main chair! Finished chair without cushion.

Cushion:
ROW 1: Ch12. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch1, turn.

ROW 2-24: Sc in each sc across. Ch1, turn. At end of row 24. Fasten off & weave both ends into back of work.

ROW 1 of Gussett: Join yarn at end of row 10 on the left hand side. Sc in same row. Sc in each of the next 9 rows down left side. Sc in each of the 11 sc across the bottom. Sc in each of the next 10 rows up the right hand side. Ch1, turn.

RND 2-4: Sc in each sc across. Ch1, turn. At the end of row 4. Fasten off leaving a long end for stitching cushion closed. Weave other end into back of work.

Finished chair with cushion.

Cushion Assembly:
Use a lacing stitch to close the cushion. With yarn needle & long end, stitch 4 rows of gussett to rows 11, 12, 13 and 14 to form a box end. Turn the corner and stitch each sc to rows 15-24 to the corner. Stitch next 11 sc of gusset to the 11 sc across row 24 to the next corner. Turn the corner and stitch each sc to rows 24 -15 back to other end of gussett. Before you complete this side though, stuff with polyester fiberfill, then stitch the rest of this side closed and stitch the end of the gusset to the next 4 rows. Weave ends into work.
