Cluster Stitch Scarf Hat

This hat combines a regular hat with a scarf to make a warm and cozy scarf hat! First you make the crown part with the cuff on the front. Then you make the scarf part.

Materials Needed
9 oz worsted weight acrylic yarn. Red Heart Super Saver in Burgundy was used in the example
Size H/8 5mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4sc=1"
Finished Size: Fits an adult woman's head. Scarf is 5feet long
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch : Starting Cluster (starting cl):This cluster is for use at the beginning of a round. Ch3, Yo, insert hook in st indicated, yo draw up a loop, yo draw thread through 2 lps on hook, rep from beg until you have 3 lps on hook. Then *yo, draw thread through all 3 lps on hook.

Cluster (Cl): Yo, insert hook in stitch indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, *yo, insert hook in same stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2lps on hook rep from * until you have 4 lps on hook. Yo and pull through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions
RND Hat Part 1: Ch5. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. 10 sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Starting Cluster in same st as slst. Ch2. *Cl in next sc. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of starting cl.

RND 3: Starting cl in same st as slst. 3dc in next ch2 sp. *Cl in next cl. 3dc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of starting cluster.

RND 4: Staring cl in same st as slst. (2dc in next dc. Cl in next dc. 2dc in next dc.) *Cl in next cl. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of first cl.

RND 5: Starting cl in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2dc. *Cl in next cl. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of starting cl.

RND 6: Ch3. Cl in next st. Dc in next st. *Dc in next st. Cl in next st. Dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of starting cl.

RND 7: Ch3. Dc in next st. Cl in next st. *Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Cl in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 8: Starting cl in same st as slst. Dc in each of the net 2 sts. *Cl in next st. Dc in each of thenext 2 sts. Re from * around. Join w/slst to top of starting cl.

RND 9-11: Rep RNDs 6, 7 and 8 consecutively.

RND 12: Rep RND 6. (60 sts) This is where you will now work in rows to form the front cuff of the hat.

ROW 1: Ch3. Dc in next st. Cl in next st. Dc in each of the next 2 sts, cl in next st, 4 times. Cl in next st, dc in each of the next 2 sts, 5 times. Ch3, turn.

ROW 2-4: Dc in next dc. Cl in cl. Dc in each of the next 2 dc, cl in next cl, 4 times. Cl in next cl, dc in each of the next 2 dc, 4 times. Cl in next cl. Dc in next dc. Dc in top of ch3. Ch3, turn. At the end of ROW 4, fasten off.

Now you will start the scarf separately then join at part of the chain, then work on the hat part then make the rest of the chain.

RND 1: Ch89. Now work on hat. Cl in same dc as last dc before turning on RND 12. Dc in each of the next 2 sts, cl in next st, 5 times. Cl in next st, dc in each of the next 2 sts, 5 times. Cl in next st. This should be where you joined RND 12 at the end of RND 12. Ch91, turn.

ROW 2: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each of the next 86 chs. Dc in each of the next 33 sts. Dc in each of the next 89 chs to the end. Ch3, turn.

ROW 3: Sk very first dc. Dc in next dc. Cl in next dc, dc in each of the next 2 sts, 34 times. Cl in each of the next 2 sts. Dc in each of the next 2 sts, cl in next st 34 times. Dc in next st. Dc in top of ch3. Ch3, turn.

ROW 4: Sk very first dc. Dc in each st across. Dc in top of ch3. Ch3, turn.

ROW 5-12: Rep ROWs 3 & 4 consecutively. At the end of ROW 12, fasten off and weave ends into back of work.
