Oval Hole Paper Bead Bracelet

This bracelet is made with beads made with the double hole paper bead roller. This time the paper did not get pinched between the pins, instead the strips of paper were just rolled around both pins at the same time allowing an oval shaped hole to be formed.

Materials Needed

• 2 Sheets of 8½" x 11" scrapbook paper or printed copy paper for each bracelet
• Cutting Template File, Tube Bead, 5/8" x5/8" x 11" for the first strip
• Cutting Template Files, Barrel Bead, 5/8"x1/4"x8½" for the decorative top strip
• Paper Cutting tools such as scissors, rotary cutter and cutting mat or guillotine cutter.
• 8-9" of 1/4" wide Braided Elastic in either black or white depending on the color of your paper
• Sewing thread to match your braided elastic.
• Colorful Sharpie Brush or regular Markers, optional, if you are going to color your white braided elastic to match your paper
• All purpose white glue
• Glue Stick optional
• Sewing needle to sew ends of elastic together
• A mini Binder Clip
• 2 Small Safety Pins
• Any of the 3 double hole paper bead rollers. I used the 3/32" size for the beads in the example bracelet.
• Bead Glazing Supplies and tools

Finished Size: Varies according to the size you are trying to make.
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions
Step 1: Choose your paper and get your template ready and print and cut your strips. You will need straight strips that are 11" long and 5/8" wide at both ends. The other strips need to be 8½" long and 5/8" wide at the wide end and 1/4" wide at the narrow end. You will need one of each strip for each bead. You will have extra more short strips than there are long.

Step 2: Using your 3/32" double hole paper bead roller, roll the straight strip first making sure to put glue the whole length of the strip. Don't worry about pinching the paper between the 2 pins. This is what will form the oval hole. While keeping this first strip on the tool, apply glue to the wide end of the short strip on the back side and lay it on the first strip and continue rolling keeping the strip as centered as possible. Make sure to apply glue to the back side of the whole strip. Tip: I used a glue stick for most of each of both strips on the bead. I did use white glue just for the initial rolling at the very beginning. Make a bunch of beads!

Step 3: Glaze your beads in your favorite way. I string them on fishing line, putting a stopper bead at each end and a loop at each end to make them hang eaiser. I then dip them 4 times in PC Petrifier and then once into Janice Mae's Vibrance.

Step 4: Once your beads are dry, it's time to assemble your bracelet! Cut a piece of your elastic 1" longer than your wrist's circumference. Overlap the ends together, one inch over one inch and place a binder clip on the overlap. Place a safety pin at the edge of one end and about a half inch away from the other end. Take the binder clip off. String all of the beads you need to fit around your wrist onto the elastic, letting the elastic stretch as much as it needs to, to accommodate the beads. Keep the safety pins on but make sure they are positioned to be able to keep the beads on the elastic.

Step 5:Put the binder clip back on your elastic the way you did before overlapping one inch over one inch. Using a sewing needle and matching thread, use an overhand stitch to stitch the sides of the overlap together starting on the opposite side of where the binder clip is. When you are done with that side, you can remove the binder clip and stitch up the other side. Knot your thread and trim close to your work.

Step 6: Take your safety pins off of your braided elastic and let the beads go where they will filling up the elastic to form your brand new bracelet!

Note About Paper Strips: You can actually use whatever paper strips you want to use as long as the wide end of the tapered strip is the same width or narrower than your base strip. It depends on the look you are after. Also I cut my strips in 2 different lengths. You can use different templates and different papers if you want to get a different effect. The whole idea behind this bracelet is to show you a different rolling technique with the double hole paper bead rollers. This gives you just another way of making beads for jewelry making! Be creative and let your imagination go wild!
