Mix all ingredients and knead as for bread dough. You can roll this dough out and cut it with cookie cutters to make great ornaments!
Use for making ornaments and other figures. Bake finished pieces in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes for thin items and an hour for thick items. After the pieces cool, they can be painted with any paint then given a coat of varnish to protect the finish.

Bring the water and salt to a boil. You can add food color now if you like. Remove from heat and add the alum, oil and flour. Knead well. Make into just about anything. I am not sure if this air dries or not. The book that I got this recipe from did not say so.

Knead well and use for small things like jewelry and small ornaments. Can be colored by mixing in a dab of acrylic paint with the glue. Make your items then allow to air dry over night.
You can also paint the finished pieces after they have air dried over night. Then give them a coat of clear varnish.
This air dries. Sift to gether 1 cup of cornstarch and 2 cups of baking soda. Gradually stir in 1½ cups of water, careful to press out lumps. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture resembles mashed potatoes. Turn out on to a counter and knead until smooth. Use cornstarch if needed to keep it from sticking.
