Pony Bead Bag

Pony Bead Bag Designed by Julie A. Bolduc

This drawstring bag is easy to make and uses a CD for the bottom. You can use any color combination of beads and cotton yarn you would like.

Materials Needed
360 6x9 mm Pony beads Your choice of colors
Worsted weight cotton yarn in any color 6 oz.
Size F 5 or 3.75mm aluminum crochet hook
Used CD
Yarn Needle

Yarn Thickness: 3mm
Gauge: 5dc = 1"
Finished Size: 8" x 8"
Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate

Special Stitch: Beaded Double Crochet (Bdc, bdc): Yo, insert hook in stitch indicated. Yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, pull up a bead, yo, pull through last 2 lps on hook working the bead into the back of the stitch.

Instructions
Circle 1: Do not string on beads yet.
RND 1: Ch4. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3, 11 dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. 2 dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (24dc.)

RND 3: Ch3. 2dc in next st. *Dc in next st. 2 dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/sls to top of ch3. (36dc)

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in next st. 2dc in next st. *Dc in each of the next 2 sts. 2dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join wslst to top of ch3. (48dc)

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. 2dc in next dc. *Dc in each of the next 3 dc. 2dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (60dc)

RND 6: Ch1. Sc in each dc around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work. Set this circle aside.

Circle 2 & rest of bag: String on all 360 beads on now.
RND 1-6: Repeat as for Circle 1 but do not fasten off.

RND 7: Join circle 1 to circle 2 with a sc in each stitch around working through both layers. Be sure to slip the CD into the circles before closing. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 8: Ch3. Bdc in next st. *Dc in next st. Bdc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Ch2, pull up a bead, ch1. Dc in next st. *Bdc in next st. Dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to beaded chain.

RND 10-20: Repeat RNDs 8 & 9 consecutively.

RND 21: Ch4. Sk next st. Dc in next st. Ch1. Sk next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4.

RND 22: Ch1. Sc in next ch1 sp. *Sc in next dc. Sc in next ch1 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

Drawstrings
Make 2 the same
Ch70. Fasten off. Weave each chain through RND 21 each going in opposite directions. Tie ends together. Attach a bead to each drawstring.

Random Quick Tip!

Cheap Basting Thread
Use old sewing thread as hand basting thread. Since it is probably no good anymore in the sewing machine, keep it on hand for when you want to need to baste what you are making with thread. You can also use any thread that you don't know what it is made of. Also, when basting with thread, be sure to use a color that is highly contrasting to the fabric you are basting.
