Winter Flurries Bookmark

This bookmark is fun to make and fairly easy. You join the snowflakes as you go on the last round. Then a border of blue is added around the perimeter.

Materials Needed

Red Heart Classic Crochet Thread size 10 in Color#0201 white
Red Heart Classic Crochet Thread size 10 in Color#0480 Delft
Spray Starch- Optional
Size 7 Steel crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle for Weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10 Thread
Gauge: 8sc = 1"
Finished Size: 9" x 2-1/4"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions
Snowflakes:
#1 RND 1: Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. 12sc in ring. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Ch3. Sk next sc. *2dc in next sc. Ch3. Sk next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Ch4. Sc in next sc. Sc in next sc. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch4. Sc in next sc. Rep from *around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off.

Snowflakes 2-5:
RND 1-3: Repeat RNDs 1-3 as for the first snowflake.

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in next dc. Ch4. Sc in next sc. Dc in next dc. Join to previous snowflake between dc of one point with a slst. Dc in next dc. Ch4. Sc in next sc. Dc in next dc of current snowflake. Join to the next point of the same previous snowflake in the sp between the 2 dc. Dc in next dc of current snowflake. Ch4. Sc in next sc. Ch4. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch4. sc in next sc. Ch4. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

Perimeter:
RND 1: Join Delft blue to same st as slst. Sc in next dc. Ch16, sc in each of the next 2 dc of next snowflake 4 times. (Ch8, sc in ech of the next 2 dc, 3 times.) Ch16, sc in each of the next 2dc of next snowflake 4 times. Rep bet () once. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in next sc. Dc in each of the next 16 chs, dc in each of the next 2 sc, 4 times. (2dc in each of the next 8 chs. Dc in each of the next 2 sc. Dc in each of the next 8 chs. Dc in each of the next 2 sc. 2dc in each of the next 8 chs.) Dc in each of the next 2 sc. Dc in each of the next 16chs, dc in each of the next 2 sc, 4 times. Rep bet () once. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.

Finishing: Starch and iron to flatten and shape as needed.

Glue Basting Quilt As You Go Blocks
Here is another way to baste a quilt block when making your quilt sandwiches. I have done this and it works very well! Instead of using spray or fusible batting, you can put dots of liquid Elmer's School glue where you would normally put your safety pins. I would actually put the dots closer together. Think of this, when we use spray basting or fusible batting, there is glue, why not just use the least expensive option. Little dots of Elmer's school glue. You cannot feel the dots when you are quilting and they do not interfere with the needle in the machine. Just use little dots. The action of pressing the glued layers together flattens the glue dots and as long as they are tiny, you will not feel them. Also, the Elmer's school glue will wash out of clothing even after it is set with an iron. Plus you don't have to worry about overspray or breathing in the glue into your lungs. I have also made a glue/water mixture and brushed it on with a sponge brush. That works well also.
