Christmas Candle
Designed by Julie A. BolducI know you are thinking to yourself that you have seen this candle before and you may have even made one that is similar. Well the idea for this candle is not mine but the pattern is. I am sure I could come up with other looks based on this basic construction. So enjoy!!!
Materials Needed:
Small amounts each of red green and Christmas Ombre Glitter Yarn by Caron.
Small amount white worsted weight yarn.
Small scrap of Orange Worsted Weight Yarn
Size H or 6.5mm aluminum crochet hook
Empty carboard tube from bath tissue.

Finished Size: 7" high 5½" across bottom

Instructions
With Red
RND 1: Ch20. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. Sc in each ch around. Join w/slst to first sc.
RND 2: Ch3, dc in next sc. Ch 1. Sk next st. *Dc in each of the next 2 sc. Ch1. Sk next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off red.
RND 3: Join green in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in next st. Tr in skippped sc in front of ch1 sp. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Tr in skipped sc in front of ch1 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.
RND 4: Ch3. Dc in next st. Ch1, sk the tr. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch1. Sk the tr. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off green.
RND 5: Join red in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in next st. Tr in skippped tr in front of ch1 sp. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Tr in skipped tr in front of ch1 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.
RND 6: Ch3. Dc in next st. Ch1, sk the tr. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch1. Sk the tr. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off red.
RND 7: Join green in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in next st. Tr in skippped tr in front of ch1 sp. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Tr in skipped tr in front of ch1 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.
RND 8: Ch3. Dc in next st. Ch1, sk the tr. *Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Ch1. Sk the tr. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off green.
RND 9: Rep rnd 5. fasten off. Turn inside out and weave all ends in at this point. Do not continue until this is done. Then turn right side out and set aside.
Base: With Ombre:
RND 1: Ch3. Work 10 hdc in 3rd chfrom hook. Join w/slst to first hdc.
RND 2: Ch3. Hdc in same st as slst. Work 2 hdc in each st around. You should now have 20 hdc around. Joining to bottom.
RND 3: Match up the starting chain of the candle with RND 2 of base. Sc the base to the candle working through the single lp of each st around the bottom of the base and the two lps on rnd 2 of base. Join w/slst to first sc.
RND 4: Ch3, 3dc in same st as slst. Work 4 dc in each sc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.
RND 5: Ch3. Work 1dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.
RND 6: Slst in each st around. Join w/slst to first slst. Weave all ends into work. Put tube into candle and set aside.
Top
Flame: With Orange.
Ch5. Slst in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next 2 chs. Slst in last ch. Fasten off leave ends long for now.
Top: With White worsted weight.
RND 1: Ch3. Work 10 hdc in 3rd chfrom hook. Join w/slst to first hdc.
RND 2: Ch3. Hdc in same st as slst. Work 2 hdc in each st around. You should now have 20 hdc around. Fasten off leaving at least a 14" length for sewing to top of candle. Weave starting end. Sew flame to center of white top and weave the ends in on the back side so the orange does not show through. Sew top to top of candle using an over hand stitch.
