Puff Stitch Elf Stocking
Designed By Julie A. BolducThis unusual stocking started out as a pair of slippers but I ran out of enough red yarn to complete the pair so I decided to make it a Christmas Stocking instead.
Materials Needed
1 Ball 4oz worsted weight yarn acrylic. In any Red color you want. Don't ask me what brand I used. I do not know.
The yarn was in a bag I got from my sister.
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in off white or Aran for the cuff.
Size H 8 aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle
Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4puff stitches = 2"
Finished Size: 13"x10"

Special Stitch Used
Puff Stitch (pf)
Yo, insert hook in next stitch, yo pull through stitch and make loop ½" long. *Yo insert hook in same stitch, yo pull through stitch and make another loop ½ long. Repeat from * one more time. Then yo draw through all loops on hook. Ch1.
Instructions With Red.
RND 1: Ch5. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Slst into ring. Ch2. This ch2 just gives the round a starting point and makes all of the puff stitchs look even. *Pf in ring. Ch2. Pf in ring. Rep from * 4 times more. Join w/slst to top of first pf st. You should now have 5 ch2 spaces around.
RND 2: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf, ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in next sp bet pf sts. *Pf, ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in next sp bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of first pf st.
RND 3: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 2sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 2 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 4: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 3sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 3 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 5: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 4sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 4 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 6: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 5sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 5 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 7: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 6sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 6 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 8: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 7sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 7 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
RND 9: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2, pf ch2, pf in same ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 8sps bet pf sts. *Pf ch2, pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 8 sps bet pf sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first pf.
Leg Part
Fold pentagon in half so that you match up the next ch2 space with the one you are in right now. The next ch2 corner space is where you will work your next puff stitch to start the leg part of the stocking.
RND 10: Slst to the first ch2 sp. Ch2. 1pf stitch in this same sp. Sk next 9 spaces between pf sts. Puff stitch in the next ch2 space. Pf in each of the next 9 sps bet pf sts. 1pf stitch in next ch2 sp. Sk next 9 spaces, the next ch2 sp, and the next 9 spaces. Pf in next ch2 sp. Pf in each of the next 9 sps bet pf stitches. Join w/slst to top of first pf st.
RND 11-17: Slst to the next sp. Ch2. Pf stitch in same space and in each sp around. Join w/slst to top of first pf st. Fasten off Red.
Cuff
RND 18: Join Off White to any space. Ch2. Pf stitch in same space and in each sp around. Join w/slst to top of first pf st.
RND 19-22: Slst to next sp. Ch2. Pf stitch in same sp and in each sp around. Join w/slst to top of first pf st.
RND 23: Ch1. *Sc in next sp. Sc in next pf stitch. Rep from * 15 times more. Ch5. Sk next space. Sc in each pf st and each space till you come to the first sc. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work. The ch5 loop is your hanging loop.
Bow: Make a chain about 14" long and tie onto a puff stitch of your choice depending on the look you want.
