Rippled Rainbow Easter Basket

This Easter basket is fun and fairly easy to make and uses a recycled 3 pound margarine tub as it's inside form. It is made similar to the Rippled Rainbow Easter Egg Pillow but does not have the multicolored yarn separating the colors of the rainbow.

    Materials Needed
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in White
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in bright pink
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in bright orange
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in pale yellow
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in pale green
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in light blue
  • Worsted Weight acrylic yarn in lavender
  • Empty 3 pound margarine tub and lid
  • Hot Glue & 1 small glue stick
  • Size 8/H or 6mm aluminum crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends and stitching handle to basket.

  • Yarn Thickness: 4mm
  • Gauge: 4sc=1inch
  • Finished Size: 7½in x 11in
  • Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Double Crochet Decrease: Dcdec: Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, twice. Yo, pull through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions
RND 1: With white. Ch2. 8sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join w/slst to first sc. (8sc)

RND 2: Ch1. 2sc in same st as slst and in each st around. Join w/slst to first sc. (16sc)

RND 3: Ch1. 2sc in same st as slst. Sc in next st. *2sc in next st. Sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (24sc)

RND 4: Ch1. 2sc in same st as slst. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. *2sc in next sc. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (32sc)

RND 5: Ch1. 2sc in same st as slst. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. *2s in next sc. Sc in each of the next 3 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (40sc)

RND 6: Ch1. 2sc in same st as slst. 3sc in next sc. 2sc in next sc. Sk 2 sc. *2sc in next sc. 3sc in next sc. 2sc in next sc. Sk 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 7: Ch1. *Sc in next sc. 2sc in next sc. 3sc in next sc. 2sc in next sc. Sc in next sc. Sk 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 8: Ch1. *Sc in each of the next 3 sc. 3sc in next sc. Sc in each of the next 3 sc. Sk 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 9: Rep RND 8. Fasten off white. Join pink in same st as slst.

RND 10: Rep RND 8.

RND 11: Rep RND 8. Fasten off pink. Join orange in same st as slst.

RND 12: Rep RND 8.

RND 13: Rep RND 8. Fasten off orange. Join yellow in same st as slst.

RND 14: Rep RND 8.

RND 15: Rep RND 8. Fasten off yellow. Join green in same st as slst.

RND 16: Rep RND 8.

RND 17: Rep RND 8. Fasten off green. Join blue in same st as slst.

RND 18: Rep RND 8.

RND 19: Rep RND 8. Fasten off blue. Join lavender in same st as slst.

RND 20: Rep RND 8.

RND 21: Rep RND 8. Fasten off lavender. Join white in same st as slst.

RND 22: Rep RND 8.

RND 23: Rep RND 8.

RND 24: Slst into the next st. Ch2. Hdc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Dcdec 1. *Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Dcdec 1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch2.

RND 25: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst and in each st around. Join w/slst to first sc.

Ruffle:
RND 26a: Turn work around so you are going in the opposite direction. Work in the back loop only, the one that is away from you for this round only. You will be working on the front loop later to finish. Ch3, 3dc in same st as slst. Work 4dc in each back loop around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 26b: Turn work back around, ch3, slst in what is now the back loop. Ch1, sc in same st and in each back loop around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.

Handle:
RND 1: With white. Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch1. Sc in same st as slst and in each ch around. Join w/slst to first sc. (6 sc.)

RND 6-to what ever: Ch1, sc in same slst as slst and in each sc around. Join w/slst to first sc. Keep continuing this round until your handle is 14" long. Fasten off leaving ends that are 12" long. Leave both ends open for now. Set aside.

Plastic Handle Prep. Cut the flat rim off of the margarine tub lid so you end up with a very long narrow flat plastic strip. Start by cutting through one side, then cutting around the rim.

Pull plastic strip through the handle. Cut the plastic strip to fit inside the handle. Stitch ends closed but do not fasten off yet. Stitch each end to the top round of the basket for the handle.

Glue top round of basket to just under the rim of the margarine tub.
