Pumpkin & Witch's Hat Candy Dish Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This candy dish and lid are actually a pumpkin dish made with an empty non dairy whipped topping container and the lid is a witch's hat made with the container's lid inside for support. It is fun to make and would make a great addition to your halloween table!

Materials Needed
1 3oz skein worsted weighty acrylic yarn in black, Red Heart Super Savor was used
1 skein sport weight acrylic yarn in orange, Red Heart Sport was used
Size H/8 or 6mm aluminum crochet hook
1 empty 8oz non dairy whipped topping container with it's lid
About a 12 cup wad or ball of polyester fiberfill, fluffed up, not compacted
¼" paper punch
Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 3 and 4mm
Gauge: Center Circles on both should be 1¾" in diameter.
Finished Size: Pumpkin: 8" x 3" Hat: 9" w x 9" h
Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitch Used: (Dec) Decrease: Yo, insert hook in st indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Instructions
Prepare Container first then set aside. With paper punch, punch 46 holes around, spaced 3/8" apart on center, just under the rim. (from center of one hole to center of next hole.)
Pumpkin Base

Pumpkin Base
RND 1: With orange, ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. 14dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (15dc)

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (30dc)

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in next dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (45sts)

RND 4: Ch1, 2sc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. *2sc in next st. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (54sts)

RND 5: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in next st. (Dc in next dc. 2dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dc in next dc.) *Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (72sts)

RND 6-10: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in next st. Dc in each of the next 6 dc. *Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Dc in each of the next 6 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (72sts)

RND 11: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in next st. (Dc in next dc. Dec2. Dc in next dc.) *Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (54sts)

In this round, you are going to decrease a total of 8 stitches so the very first part does not have any decreases in it. The repeats do. This is to accommodate the 46 holes you punched in the container.

RND 12: Ch1, sc in same st as slst and in next st. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. *Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Dc in next st. Dec1. Dc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (46sts)

Now you will join the base to the container. Stuff each section as you go on the outside of the container.

RND 13: Join work to base by working 1 sc in each stitch and hole at the same time all the way around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into work. Set base aside!

Witch's Hat Lid This hat has a solid base and so this is where we begin.
RND 1: With black, ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. 15dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (16dc)

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (32dc)

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in next dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (48sts)

RND 4: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (64sts)

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

This next round is where you will prepare for the brim and the crown of the hat. Turn your work around so you are going in the opposite direction and work in the back loop only on this round only. When you are done with the brim, and start the crown, the crown will be worked on the front loop of this round.

RND 6: Ch3, 2dc in same st as slst. 3dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 7: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

Crown of Hat Rejoin yarn in front loop of RND 6. You are going to be decreasing on every other round on the crown, starting at round 3.

RND 1: Insert hook from outside to inside toward the center. Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (64sts)

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 5 sts. Dec1. *Dc in each of the next 6 sts. Dec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (56sts)

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (56sts)

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Dec1. *Dc in each of the next 5 sts. Dec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. At this point, put the lid inside work so the flattest part of the lid is on the bottom. (48sts)

RND 6: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 7: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 3 sts. Dec1. *Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Dec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (40sts)

RND 8: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Dec1. *Dc in each of the next 3 sts. Dec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (32sts)

Stuff Crown of hat at this point to desired fullness and look.

RND 10: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 11: Ch3. Dc in next st. Dec1. *Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Dec1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (24sts)

RND 12: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 13: Ch3. Dec1. *Dc in next st. Dec 1. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (16sts)

RND 14: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 15: Ch2. Dc in next dc. Dec7. Join w/slst to first dc. (8sts)

RND 16: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off leaving an end about 8" long. Weave end through last round to gather up tight to a point. Weave the rest of the end in to secure.
