Butterfly Hat Pin

Designed By Julie A. Bolduc

This hat pin could easily be made with a shorter stick pin so it can be worn on a lapel.

Materials Needed:
Small amount Southmaid Size 10 Crochet Cotton in Shaded blues.
Size 7 Steel Crochet Hook
1 5" long hat pin with end nut.
Jewelry Glue or cement & White Glue
3 Blue E beads Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 10thread
Gauge: 10 sc per inch
Finished Size: =1" wide
Skill Level: Easy

Instructions
*Ch4. 4dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch3. Slst in last dc made. 4dc in same ch as 4dc. Rep from beg once. Ch2. Sc in 2nd ch from hook.* Rep bet **. Once. Join w/slst to first ch of first ch 4. Fasten off leaving long ends. What you should have now is 4 wing parts with a picot on each one. It should form what resembles a butterfly. Slide a bead onto the pin and push to the head.

Insert pin into the sc where the ends of the threads are. The threads will become the antannae. Then slide another bead , the other sc and the third bead onto the pin pushing the sc, bead, sc and last bead against the first bead. Then put a dab of cement on the pin just under the last bead. Hold in place a few seconds to secure.

Apply some white glue to the two ends of the thread right close to the first bead and work the glue into the fibers. Separate the two threads. Allow to dry and then cut ends to about 3/8" long.
