Shell Stitch Topped Towel

This fingertip towel is topped with rows of shells that decrease with every row until you reach the mile-a-minute like hanging strap at the top. It is a fast and easy project that would make a great gift for anyone.

Materials Needed
White worsted weight acrylic yarn. Red Heart was used.
1 Hand towel cut in half across the middle from side to side width wise.
Sharp yarn needle
1 Shank style button (loop on the back) .75" diameter
Size G aluminum crochet hook

Yarn Thickness 4mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 15"long
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
ROW 1: Cut a 3 yard lenth of yarn. Using your needle. Work 80 blanket stitches across the cut edge. About .25" apart. Fasten off when you reach the end.

ROW 2: Join yarn in the first stitch, ch1. Sc in same st. *Sk next st. Sc in next st. Rep from * across. You should end up with 40 stitches. Ch1, turn.

ROW 3: Sc in first sc. *Sk next sc. 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next sc. Sk next sc, sc in next sc. Rep from * across. You should end with a sc in the last stitch. Ch1, turn. You should also have 10 shells across. With this next row and for the next few rows, you will be decreasing the number of shells across the row until you have just 2 shells left.

ROW 4: Sk first sc. Slst into the next 2 dc. Sc in next ch2 sp. *Sk next 2 dc. 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next sc. Sk next 2 dc. Sc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * across. Ch1, turn.

ROW 5-12: Rep row 4 until you have just 2 shells across then ch3, turn.

ROW 13: Slst in next 2 dc and into the next ch2 sp. Ch3, dc in same ch2 sp. 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next sc. 2dc in next ch2 sp. Ch3, turn.

ROW 14: Dc in next dc. 2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Dc in next dc and in top of ch3. Ch3, turn.

ROW 15-21: Rep row 14. At the end of row 21, ch1, turn.

ROW 22: Sc in each st across but work 3 in the ch2 sp. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work. Sew button to row 14. Hang on towel rack and use large hole in end to secure with button.
