Country Placemat

This placemat is fairly easy to make and starts off as 3 rows and then is worked in the round. You can coordinate the colors to match your kitchen or for any occasion.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight cotton yarn in off white
Worsted weight cotton yarn in light sage green
Size G/6 or 4mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn Needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 3mm
Gauge: 14dc = 4" x 4dc rows = 2"
Finished Size: 12" x 18"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Instructions ROW 1:With Color 1. Ch25. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch3, turn. (23 dc across including the ch3 at the beginning)

ROW 2 & 3: Dc in each dc across and in top of ch3. Ch3, turn. (23dc including ch3)

Now you will work in the round.

RND 1: Work 6 dc around post of last dc of row 2. Sc in bottom of first stitch of row 1 and in each st across to next corner (23sc total). 6dc around post of first dc of row 2. Sc in top of first dc of row 3 and in each dc across (23sc total on this side). Join w/slst to first dc. (58 sts in all)

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each of the next 5 dc. Dc in each of the next 23 sc. 2dc in each of the next 6 dc. Dc in each of the next 23 sc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (70sts in all)

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. (Dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc, twice. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. 2dc in next dc, dc in next dc, twice. 2dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dc in each of the next 21 dc.) 2dc in each of the next 2 dc. Repeat between () once. 2dc in next dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (86sts total)

RND 4: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. (Dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc, twice. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. 2dc in next dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, twice.) 2dc in each of the next 2 dc. Dc in each of the next 23 dc.) 2dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep bet () once. 2dc in next dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (100 sts total

RND 5: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. (Dc in each of the next 3dc, 2dc in next dc, 6 times.) 2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 23 dc. Rep bet () once. 2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 23dc. 2dc in next dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (118 sts total)

RND 6: Ch5. Sk next dc. Dc in next dc, ch2, sk next dc, 16 times. Dc in next dc, ch1, sk next dc, 13 times. Dc in next dc, ch2 sk next dc 17 times. Dc in next dc, ch1, sk next dc 13 times. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5. Fasten off Color 1.

RND 7: Join color 2 to same st as slst. Ch1. 2dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch2 sp, sc in next dc, 17 times. 1dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch 1 sp, sc in next dc, 13 times. Rep bet () once. 2dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch2 sp, sc in next dc, 17 times. 1dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch 1 sp, sc in next dc, 13 times. 1 dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch1 sp. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 8: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. (Dc in each of the next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 6 times. Dc in each of the next 22 dc.) 2dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 10: Ch5. Sk next dc. Dc in next dc, ch2, sk next dc, 29 times. Dc in next dc, ch1, sk next dc, 12 times. Dc in next dc, ch2 sk next dc 30 times. Dc in next dc, ch1, sk next dc 12 times. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5. Fasten off color 2.

RND 11: Join color 1 to same st as slst. Ch1. 2dc in skipped dc of RND 9 behind ch2 sp, sc in next dc, 29 times. 1dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch 1 sp, sc in next dc, 12 times. 2dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch2 sp, sc in next dc, 30 times. 1dc in skipped dc of RND 9 behind ch 1 sp, sc in next dc, 11 times. 1 dc in skipped dc of RND 5 behind ch1 sp. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 12: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 13: Ch1. Tightly work a slip stitch in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.
