Winter's Way Snowflake Table Mat

This table mat is easy to make and starts out as a solid circle done in blue then the blue is surrounded by white forming the snowflake. The center is big enough to place a vase on or use as a very large coaster!

Materials Needed
Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn in white and light blue
Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn Needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 3mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 11.5" from point to point
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Instructions
RND 1: With Blue. Ch4. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3, 11dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in next st. *2dc in next st. Dc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off blue.

RND 4: Join white to same st as slst. Sc in same st. Ch3. Sk 2 sts. *Sc in next st. Ch3. Sk 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 5: Slst into the first ch of the first ch 3 sp. Sc in same ch3 sp. (Ch2. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch3 sp. Ch2.) *Sc in next ch3 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 6: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. (Sc in next ch2 sp. Ch3. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp. Ch3. Sc in next ch2 sp.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first st.

RND 7: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. (Sc in next sc. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp. Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in next sc.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 8: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. (Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Sc in next ch3 sp. Ch3. Work the following in the next ch2 sp. [Dc, ch1, dc, 5 times. Dc.] Ch3. Sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in each of the next 2 sc.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 9: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. (Sc in each of the next 3 sc. 3sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in next dc. Sc, ch3, sc in next ch1 sp. Sc in next dc. Sc, ch4, sc in next ch1 sp. Sc in next dc. Sc, ch5, sc in next ch1 sp. Sc in next dc. Sc, ch4, sc in next ch1 sp. Sc in next dc. Sc, ch3, sc in next ch1 sp. 3sc in next ch3 sp. Sc in each of the next 3 sc.) *Sc in next sc. rep bet () once. Random Quick Tip!

Make it Stiff
For stiffening stuff. I just bought this wonderful stuff from Wal-Mart called Stiffen Stuff. It works great and you can control how stiff you want something by adding more coats of it as needed. It comes in a pump spray bottle and you can get 32 oz refill bottles for the pump bottle. You can even dry it in the microwave. There is a website you can go to to learn more about it. http
//www.beacon1.com I used it for the skirt of the angel and it holds up very well. I used only two applications and it is able to hold it's shape but does have some give to it. You cannot even tell that there is stiffener in it. I really love the stuff. For something a basket though, you may want to keep adding coats of it until it is as stiff as you want it.
