Santa's Mittens Ornament

These cute mittens are open a the top so you can stuff them with sweet treats if you like. Also they would make a cute package topper as well.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in white
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in red
Size H/8 aluminum crochet hook
Metal Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc =1"
Finished Size: 4½"x3"
Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions
RND 1: Make 2 mittens the same. With white, ch16, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. Dc in each ch around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off.

RND 3: Join red in same st as slst. Ch3. 2dc in same st. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. 3dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 11 dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Thumb. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 8 dc. Sk the next 11 dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 6: Ch1. *Sk 1 st. Sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1. Fasten off, leave end long enough to gather tip of thumb close. Close thumb by weaving in and out of each stitch, draw up tight to close. Weave the rest of the end into work.

RND 1 of Palm: With thumb to the right, join red to 3rd dc of the 3dc shell in round 3. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 11 dc. Dc in top of ch3 of round 3. Join w/slst to top of ch3 of rnd 1 of palm.

RND 2-4: Ch3. Dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3. (Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo pull through all 3 lps on hook.) *Dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around, you will end with a dc in the last dc. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off leaving and end long enough to close the tip of the palm. Finish as you did for the thumb.

Finishing Hanger: With white. Make a chain 20 chs long. Attach each end to each of the mittens at the cuff opposite of the thumb. Secure tightly and use this hanger to hang on your tree.
