This is a fun and easy pillowghan square that can be made with the scraps you may have in your stash. The yarn in this square was Red Heart Super Saver. It has 2 rounds with cluster stitches in it but for the most part, it has just double crochets and single crochets.

Materials Needed
Large Scraps of Worsted Weight Acrylic yarn in 3 colors. A dark color, variageted or shaded color and a medium color.*
Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4sc=1"
Finished Size: 12"x12"
Skill Level: Intermediate

Beginning cluster, begcl: Ch2, yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook twice. Yo, pull through all lps on hook.

Cluster cl: *Yo, insert hook in sp indicated, yo, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2lps on hook. Rep from 2 times more. Yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

Instructions
RND 1: Using dark color, ch4, join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3, 2dc in ring. Ch2. 3dc in ring, ch2, 3 times. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 2: Slst into the next dc. Begcl in same st. (Ch1. Cl, ch2, cl, ch2, cl in nrct ch2 sp. Ch1. Sk 5 dc.) *Cl in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of begcl. Fasten off dark color.

RND 3: Join variegated color in same st as slst. Ch1. (Sc in next ch1 sp. Sc in next cluster. 2sc in next ch2 sp, sc in next cl twice. Sc in next ch1 sp.) *Sc in next cluster. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to ch1.

RND 4: Ch3. (Dc in each of the next 2 sc. 2dc in each of the next 5 sc. Dc in each of the next 2 sc.) *Dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. (Sc in each of the next 2dc. 2sc in next dc, sc in each of the next 2 sc, 4 times.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off variegated.

RND 6: Join dark color in same st as slst. Ch3, 2dc in same st. (Sk 2 sc, 3dc in next sc, 3 times. 3dc in next sc. Ch2. 3dc in next sc, sk 2 sc, 3 times.) *3dc in next dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

From here on out, treat each 3dc group as a shell and for the next few rounds, where indicated, you will be working in the spaces between the shells.

RND 7: Slst into each of the next 2dc and in next sp bet shells. Ch3, 2d in same sp. (3dc in each of the next 2 spaces. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 sp. 3dc in each of the next 3 sps.) *3dc in next sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off dark color.

RND 8: Join medium color in fir sp after joining. ch3. 2dc in same sp. 3dc in each of the next 2 spaces. (3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch2 corner sp. 3dc in each of the next 4 sps.) *3dc in each of the next 3 sps. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Sc in each of the next 11dc. (Sc, ch2, sc in next ch2 corner sp. Sc in each of the next 15dc.) *Sc in each of the next 12 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 10: Join variegated color in same st as slst. Ch3. Dc in each of the next 12 sc. (2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 corner sp. Dc in each of the next 16 sc.) *Dc in each of the next 13 sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off variegated color.

RND 11: Join dark color in same st as slst. Ch3, dc in each of the next 14 dc. (2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 sp. Dc in each of the next 17 dc.) *Dc in each of the next 15 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/sls to top of ch3.

RND 12: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in each of the next 16 dc. (Sc, ch2, sc in next ch2 corner sp. Sc in each of the next 20 dc.) *Sc in each of the next 17 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

*NOTE: I used Red Heart Super Saver in Coffee, Warm Brown and Shaded browns.
