Ultra Thick Potholder

This really thick potholder will work best after it has been shrunk to tighten the stitches. It uses a dc stitch that is worked in the back loop then the front loop of each stitch.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight cotton yarn in desired color
Size G/5 aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Yarn Thickness: 2mm
Gauge: 4 sts =1"
Finished Size: 6"x6¼"
Skill Level: Beginner

Back Front Double Crochet (bfdc): Yo, insert hook in back lp of next st, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, yo, insert hook in front lp toward you, draw up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, yo, draw through all lps on hook.
Back Front Single Crochet (bfsc): Insert hook in back lp of next st, draw up a lp, insert hook in front lp toward you, draw up a lp, yo, draw through all lps on hook.

Instructions
ROW 1: Ch23. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch3, turn.

ROW 2-4: Work a bfdc in each st across. Dc in top of turning ch. Ch3, turn. At the end of row4, ch1 turn.

ROW 5: Work a bfsc in each st across. Ch3, turn.

ROW 6-8: Work a bfdc in each st across. Dc in top of turning ch. Ch3, turn. At the end of row 8, ch1, turn.

ROW 9: Repeat row 5.

ROW 10-12: Work a bfdc in each st across. Dc in top of turning ch. Ch3, turn. At the end of row 12, ch1, turn.

ROW 13: Sc in each st across, then continue around the whole piece, working in as many sc stitches as you need to keep the work flat. It will be 2sc per dc row and 1 per sc row. When you get back to the beginning of the round, join w/slst to first sc on the top left side. Fasten off, weave ends in to back of work.
