Dumb Bell Baby Rattle

This crocheted baby rattle is made with 2 cat toys inside. Make sure you use cat toys that have plastic bells inside since metal ones could rust. It is made in 2 parts which are then sewn together.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in Baby Print. Red Heart Super Saver was used in the example.
Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
2 ball type cat toys, plastic with plastic bells inside.
Polyester Fiberfill
Yarn needle for assembly and weaving in ends.

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc=1"
Finished Size: 7" x 2"
Skill Level: Beginner

Special Stitch Used: (dec) Decrease:Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo pull through 2 lps on hook, twice. Yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

Instructions
Make 2 pieces the same then stitch them together.
RND 1: Ch4, 12dc in 4th ch from hook. Join w/slst to 4th ch from hook.

RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch2, dc in next dc. *Dec 1. Rep from * around. (you are decreasing all the way around. Before you join, slip cat toy ball inside. Join w/slst to top of first dc.

RND 5 & 6: Ch3. Dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off leaving a 12" length on one of the pieces. Weave all other 3 ends in.

Assembly: Stuff the stems of work firmly. Using a whip stitch, stitch rnd 6 of both pieces together so they look the picture and form a dumbell.

Stringing Beads Before Stitching
If you crochet with beads, put the beads in a shallow dish to make it easier to scoop them up one or two at a time. When working with beads, most of the time you will need to put the beads onto the thread or yarn first before starting with crocheting.
