Perky Popcorn Hat

This hat is fairly easy to make and anyone who has worked in the round before can make this hat. It has one round of popcorn stitches at the brim, hence the name.

Materials Needed
Worsted weight acrylic yarn in color of choice. Red Heart Super Saver in Black was used in the example.
Size H/8 or 6mm aluminum crochet hook
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.

Yarn Thickness: 4mm
Gauge: 4dc= 1"
Finished Size: Adult Woman
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Special Stitches
Beg Popcorn: Ch3, 4dc in same st as slst. Take hook out of loop on hook, insert hook in top of ch3 and then back into dropped loop, pull dropped loop through top of ch3 to close popcorn.
Popcorn: 5dc in stitch indicated, take hook out of loop and insert hook in first dc, insert hook back into dropped loop and pull loop through first dc to close popcorn.

RND 1: Ch4. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch3. 11 dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (12dc)

RND 2: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (24dc)

RND 3: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in next dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (36dc)

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (48dc)

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (60dc)

RND 6: Ch3. Dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. *2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 4 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (72dc)

RND 7: Ch3. Working around back of post for this round only, dc in each dc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 8: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in each dc around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 9: Ch2, dc in same st as slst. Dc in each sc around. Join w/sls to first dc.

RND 10: Rep RND 8.
RND 11: Rep RND 9.
RND 12: Rep RND 8.

RND 13: Beg Popcorn in same st as slst. Ch1. Sk next sc. *Popcorn in next sc. Ch1. Sk next sc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first popcorn. (37popcorns)

RND 14: Ch1, sc in same st as slst. Sc in next ch1 sp. *Sc in next popcorn. Sc in next ch1 sp. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. (72sc)

RND 15: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2Dc in each sc around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 16: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Sc in each dc around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.
