Y- Stitch [Yst]
The Y Stitch is a fun and easy stitch to do. This is not one of my stitches but a common stitch that you can find in various crochet books such as the one listed below. By the way, if you do not already have the book below, you can order it right now from Amazon.com!
Suggested materials
Worsted Weight--For afghans sweaters & sampler squares.
Worsted Weight cotton--for dishcloths, sweaters, placemats.
Sport & Baby yarns--For afghans, & layettes.
Crochet Threads---motifs, placemats, doilies done in rows.
Suggested Hooks
For WW Yarns F,G,H,I,J
For Sport & Baby Yarns D,E,F
For threads Use what ever size hook is recommended for the size thread you are using. Steel works best of course.
Instructions
Below are the instructions. Taken from the Encyclopedia of 300 Crochet Patterns Stitches and Designs. There is a picture of the stitch in the book as well as a symbol stitch chart picture.
Make a chain which is a multiple of 3 plus 7.
ROW 1: Tr in 7th ch from hook, *Ch1 dc around middle of tr post. (Y stitch made), sk 2 ch, tr in next ch, rep from * across row, ch4, turn.
ROW 2: Rep row 1 except make Y-st in ch1 sp, of Y-st of prev row, tr in top of ch. Ch4, turn.
Rep row 2 for pattern.
